How to Secure Web Browsing
12 October 2023The web browser is an extremely complex piece of software. It can be used to display websites, videos, images, games, forms and much more. Originally designed to display text documents, it now handles all of the various media available on the Internet. This makes it more difficult for security teams to protect because it has many “weak points” that hackers can exploit.
If you’re using the default program that is preloaded on your computer or an alternative one that you’ve downloaded, it is important to check that the security settings are set to the highest level you can get. This will decrease the chances of malware getting over your security and installing onto your system. It’s also a good idea to use the web browser in an account for users with limited access that doesn’t have administrator privileges. Even if malware manages to override the security settings of your browser, it will not be able to manipulate your system.
It’s also a good idea for you to teach your users about safe browsing practices and habits. This could include teaching them to always choose the highest security level when using a web browser as well as disabling auto-complete functions and regularly clearing saved passwords. It is also important to remind them that websites must clearly state how their data is used and how it’s collected. Typically, this information is located in the privacy policies or the site’s agreement. Browser security tools are also available which eliminate blind spots by monitoring and analyzing sessions on the internet for threats and risks. These solutions are device-agnostic as they protect devices that are managed and unmanaged, including BYOD and third party unmanaged devices.
